Major Search Chapter 6 - A New Companion ... Edmund stood in front of Anne protectively. He grabbed a small metal pole and held it up in terror. His heart was pounding so loudly, it was as if there was a massive drum beating constantly. There was more rustling. It was getting louder and louder. Suddenly, a chocolate brown and white Springer Spaniel leapt out if the hay. Anne screamed a little when the dog jumped out at them. Then, Rosie rubbed her eyes and squealed with delightfulness at the sight of the raggedy, unusual, adorable creature. She stood up and toddled towards the dog, cautiously. But the spaniel came running up to her, positively. Rosie started stroking the dog attentively. Anne was still stood behind Edmund who was still holding the metal pole. After a while of stroking and fussing over the dog, Anne made a suggestion. "I don't really think that we can take this dog with us!" Edmund and Rosie stared hard at her, clearly upset. Even the dog looked saddened by this news. "Pleeeeeeaaaaase, can we keep him??" Rosie gave Anne the puppy - dog eyes. It took only a few minutes of pleading and begging from Rosie and the spaniel, for Anne to change her mind. "Fine. But you two have to look after her!" She said reluctantly. Rosie cheered and started hugging the dog, happily. "What shall we call her?" Rosie asked, excitedly. It took a lot of 'umming' and 'ahhhing' for them to decide on a suitable name. Then Edmund piped up, "We should call her Shadow!"

Major Search Chapter 5 - The Visitor The three children sat on an old, rotten log. It was getting dark, and they had travelled a long distance, by now, their mother would've realised that they had gone. The three sat there, shivering violently. Annie piped up, " We need to find shelter for tonight, or we'll freeze to death!" They were wandering through a small, deserted village. The children came across an abandoned barn. Edmund stood in front of the two girls, as if he were protecting them. He opened the big brown doors with a groan. The three children crept in, being very careful so that they wouldn't get caught sneaking around. They started picking up some hay and placing it up in the hay loft to create a comfortable bed for the night. They started to settle down for the night. With the blankets that they brought with them in their bags. Edmund and Rosie were asleep by now, however, Anne was still awake. She was thinking about her mother and how she missed her so. Annie was just about to drift off to sleep when she heard a rustling. It was coming from the hay bale next to her. She sat up alert. Edmund woke up and looked at Anne, confused. "What's wrong?" He whispered. Anne glanced at him worriedly. "There's something in the hay bale next to me." She said alarmingly....

Major Search Chapter 4 - The Chase As the three children walked up the frozen road, they heard a noise coming from behind them. It sounded like footsteps crunching towards them in the thick white blanket on the ground. Annie looked behind her shoulder. A plump, short policeman came striding towards them shouting, "Stop right there you lot!!" The policeman started running. He was shouting something that was very hard to hear due to the crunching of the snow. Annie turned to her brother and sister and shouted, "Run!" They ran as fast as their legs would carry them. Rosie then tripped on a large stone. She went flying, face-first into the cold snow. Rosie screeched as she felt an icy hand grasp her collar on her navy blue, gingham dress. The policeman held her up, at eye level by her collar. "Now, what are you doing out of your beds at this time in the morning?" Rosie starting kicking and waving her arms about in panic. Edmund and Anne came running up and started hitting the policeman. Edmund then grabbed a stone and threw it at the policeman's leg. He immediately fell to the floor, dropping Rosie and clutching his leg in pain. The three of them ran once more.

Major Search Chapter 3 - The Adventure Begins. Early the next morning, Edmund and Annie stared packing their stuff into a bag. Annie was trying desperately not to wake Rosie up, but it was so dark that she had tripped over one of Rosie's toys, which had woken her up. She rubbed her bleary eyes and asked, slightly bemused, "What are you doing? Where are you going?" Annie sighed. "Nowhere. We are going nowhere." Rosie looked at Annie in a perceptive way. "I'm not stupid!!!" She cried. Annie and Edmund sat down on the edge of Rosie's bed. As she sat up, Annie calmly stroked Rosie's thick brown hair tenderly. "We are going to find father." She whispered, nervously. Edmund looked at her in frustration. " I thought we weren't going to tell her!" He said, rather annoyed. Then Rosie piped up, "I want to come with you." "I don't think so, Rosie. It's too dangerous!" Exclaimed Edmund. Rosie whimpered softly. "I want to see Daddy." Rosie's eyes started to well up with tears. Edmund gave in, "Fine. Ok, you can come. But you must stay out of trouble, you promise?" "I promise!" Rosie smiled, happily. Rosie leaped out of bed and gathered some of her clothes. "Ssshhhh!!! We don't want to wake mum!" Annie said with a loud whisper. A few minutes later, the three children were at the door, looking around as if it was there last look. Annie put a letter down, neatly on the brown mahogany chest of drawers next to the door. They all crept out of the door and into the cold, snow-covered streets, closing the door silently behind them.

Major Search Chapter 2 - The Mission Later that evening, Edmund and Annie were talking about the letter. "Where do you suppose Father is?" Asked Edmund. Annie sighed. "I don't know, Ed." Then she sat up with excitement. "We could go and find him!" Edmund looked worriedly at Annie. "Are you mad!!! We can't go out to the front!" He cried. Ed rolled his eyes and sighed heavily. "Oh, alright! But just the two of us, not Rosie. " Annie squealed with excitement and clapped her hands quietly, being careful not to wake up her little sister, snoring next to her. " Okay, we will leave in the morning."
