Defeat
I knew the light was fading soon,
The tree line growing near.
I had to make it before the creatures caught up to me.
Panic stricken my fate continued to grow with fear.
My heart pounded so hard,
As my feet trodden the field's tall grass.
I kept my eyes upon the safety,
Of the forest approaching fast.
I could hear them marching,
Marching together as one.
The only motive that they had,
To make sure I was dead and gone.
My instinct told me to locate a spot,
To hide up in the trees,
But common sense kicked in and
I decided to continue to flee.
I dodged the trees and underbrush,
That covered the forest floor.
Their devilish cries grew loader now,
My mind grew crazed, I couldn't take much more.
The obstacles now slowed my pace,
The beasts seemed to be gaining speed.
I wondered how much longer I could run,
I prayed for a miracle, a miracle indeed.
It screamed from a decaying mouth,
It pulled me down upon the ground.
I fought so hard to escape it's grip,
Within it's clutches I was bound.
And at the moment the creature took my #life,
I closed my eyes in defeat.
I suddenly woke from this nightmarish dream,
Lying next to me, my wife laid sound asleep.
