When We Come Of Age I want to be me But that's not as easy as it seems When you're a kid it almost sounds silly When adults say "Don't be afraid to be who you want to be" Because you figure "Well who else would I be?" But over the years you start to realize Hiding certain parts of yourself is encouraged Unless you want to be ostricized "Wear this" "listen to that" "fall in love this way" Are just a few things they'll say But they have no room to criticize They haven't seen the world through our eyes They don't see the carnage and heartache they leave behind With their wars, their prejudice, they're phobias, and their ignorance They say they want what's best for us, But I don't see it When we come of age, we'll have a lot to fix But someone has to do it, Since they're too busy judging and bickering to get around to it Racism, sexism, homophobia All are within our power to change We just have to stand up ans fight for it
