Who's Line Is It Anyway? #updatedversionofapreviouspostasIstillfindthisincrediblyfrustrating!!! I've not been on Opuss much lately, And have missed all the wonderful writings But as I catch up on all that has passed, Seems there's some 'wrongs' that really need 'righting'! I enjoy all the sourced #quotes and #poems, That members of Opuss, will find and then share But no word of the original author, Is hardly the way to play fair Transparency it seems, can be lacking Some take praise when it's really not due Likes, Reposts, false rise up the rankings Not a game I like playing- Do you? Don't give a toss if I'm number one or one thousand, I just like to write, that's all So it pisses me off when I give someone praise To find it was never their work at all Even worse, are the sycophantic comments- 'Oh thank you - I'm so glad you liked it....' Yet until prompted, there's never a mention Of the fact that they didn't write it! Copyright flouted, originality touted False adoration, acclaim & applause If only they'd stop, take a minute to think Of the original author & pause... to remember someone else spent the time and the hours, Putting pen to paper to write down THEIR words To exclude any hint of the true author, Is both stupid and somewhat absurd 'Author Unknown' ? No problem - but please state it! A simple inclusion before you hit 'Send' We all cut corners in #life But to write your own is no strife- Copyright's not a rule you should bend Don't waste time on scouring the poetry sites To see what you can steal, nick and borrow If you carry on that way, There'll be little left to say You'll be void of your own words tomorrow. For if your ink has run dry, then bear with it! Ride the storm - it will not be a waste Take some time and seek out inspiration, Instead of throwing in the odd 'cut & paste'... There are times you stumble on words so wonderful, You long to just let the world know! We'll gladly all read, and post comments in your feed But if YOU didn't write it- Please say so! All we ask is that you mention and be honest, As to the source of your latest great piece, Or sooner or later, your peers will lose interest And the likes and the reposts will cease.

Said person isn't a new member either, it's a real shame members feel the need to do it, maybe a genuine mistake but if not, who are thy really fooling?? Themselves!!! @smellyfingers @Irrational_Kimmi @leelee101 It's not the fact that the pieces are copied - it's the lack of credit to original author (whether unknown or not) that is wrong. And@smellyfingers I've seen four or so pieces in the last week...the first couple I let go. Like you say, many new members may be unaware of the copyright etiquette, in which case it's understandable. But once it's been raised, it really shouldn't happen again ð

@Fly10 just be careful - I got shouted down for telling off 'plagiarists' and getting the community involved. I've tried to talk to a couple of others since, quietly, with mixed results. One did then apologise and credited her work, the other ignored me and just deleted the post. I shall name no names, they know who they are. Anyway, after the backlash last time I'm not reporting anything else.

Everyone gave her the benefit of the doubt to start with, mainly because she was 'high' in the rankings. I'm passionate about this though - there is simply no excuse for taking a piece of work, in many cases carefully editing it, & then posting it without credit to the person who crafted the original words. And that's that! ðð

@Nom I think it's the very same person that you pulled up previously. There is clearly a misunderstanding as to the definition of 'Quote'. Whether its Poem, Blog, Story or Quote, if its not yours then it should be stated. Hiding behind 'Quote' just to edit & copy someone else's work is ridiculous! And yes, I've updated this post a fair bit, hence the reason it prob appeared unfamiliar ðð

@sammielee46 There are several on here guilty, but re the person currently in question, if you look at earlier back catalogue it becomes obvious that more recent posts are not the same author. Clearly odd lines have been changed, which even if the 'Quote' category was misunderstood, immediately shows there is intent to deceive. I've tracked several more on various sites. I know the member is relatively young, but surely old enough to know the difference between right & wrong....I don't want to single out one person, as there are others, but it kind of puts the spotlight on you when it's 'Top Today'!! ð

I'm sort of new to Opuss, but I joined because it looked unique in the sense that you get to share your own works and pinball back and forth with other people's original works. If I wanted to share some lyrics or quotes that aren't mine, I'd just use Facebook or another similar site. I'm kind of surprised others who plagiarize here on purpose don't feel the same way, but perhaps I'm just too goody-two-shoes x) personally I found the idea of an app specifically for original writers very new and refreshing, you can't find those everywhere! So I'd use it for what it was made for, and save the quotes for elsewhere ^.^ To comment on this piece though, very well written! It stated everything so true, yet in a very writer-ey way (x

@EvanescentWings Thanks for your honest & straight comment. That's exactly the same reason I joined Opuss, & personally I see little point in simply posting other people's work. However, I also appreciate that at times a particular piece may inspire or touch you in some way, & you feel it's worthwhile & beneficial to the writing community to share said piece. In that case, as my piece states, then at least credit the author! I hope you enjoy Opuss overall-it's a wonderful community to be part of ð
