Leave Aeroplanes are everywhere, blocking the sunlight. They fill up the clear blue sky, turning it grey with gas. The noise from them is unbearable… deafening. Mum says not to panic, but I don't agree. It's not normal, and anything unusual is to be feared. I ask dad what it is, but he just sighs and shrugs, obviously awkward with telling me what is going on. He tells me, "nothing to worry your pretty little head, my dear. Go to bed, it's an early morning tomorrow, a… little holiday!" I smile innocently, with wide eyes and say, "No school?" And dad shakes his head. "Nope. Not for a while now." I realise the mistaken look on his face- he shouldn't have said that. "Why?" I ask sweetly. "Oh, just because its the holidays next week, a-and w-were on holiday e-early…" I was making him nervous, he stutters when he's nervous. "Ok! No school for ages!!" I hop out the room joyfully, stopping when I get out of eyesight. It's not a holiday next week, and we never go on holiday early anyway! Something's wrong, but I'm not going to 'worry my pretty little head' out, I'm just going to worry the tiniest bit. I wake early, about 60 am. Mum and dad are mumbling to each other in the hallway. I can just make out a few words. "We better leave soon." It's mums voice. "Yes, not long till they get us. We better go now…" the rest is too quiet for me to hear. I swing the door open and say, "what are you talking about?" It makes mum and dad jump, but not enough to fall. "Nothing. You shouldn't have been eavesdropping, my little cupcake!" Mum strokes my hair. "It's not eavesdropping when you are outside my room talking rather loudly!" I lied about the loud part… "plus it's not nothing! You said that 'they' were going to get us! And why are we leaving? It's not the holiday next week, is it DAD!" After those words left my lips, the front door swung open. "Go,go!!"Mum said urgently, "take Tilly, tell her we are playing hide and seek, find somewhere no one will find you! I love you girls, remember that!" I could see mum was not joking. I had to go. "Ok. Love you, mum and dad." I kissed their cheeks and ran into Tilly's room. "Tilly! Come with me! We can play hide and seek!" She leaped up and slipped her hand into mine. "Yay ! Exciting !" In truth, it wasn't exciting at all.
