The dayroom on "Rikers Island" is where prisoners would gather to watch Television,play cards, fight one another and on occasion commit sodomy. As I was being delivered my escort was shaking his head as if he knew of my impending fate. I was left By myself, I started to think they forgot about me until two inmates entered The room smiling. They both wore green prison issue pants with red T-shirts "Yo, Mighty Whitey, what you in for"? Before I could respond another two Inmates entered. Dressed identical to the others except for one who wore a Black du-rag. " You scared ?" He demanded, " he aiet , dis my boy yo". Said One as he put his arm around my shoulder. I knew I shouldn't have allowed this seemingly friendly gesture. Before I could reject his greeting I was in a choke hold being pummeled with punches and kicks. I could almost hear my scalp tearing from my scull. I tasted blood as the punches to my face caused my gums to bleed. The dayroom door burst open, "What the fuck did I tell you Moths fuckas ?" The Correction Officer hissed ! " After the god damned Count !" This is bad I thought. I realized he's not here to help me. As my attackers filed out of the dayroom, they looked like disappointed children not allowed to eat their ice cream. I hurried to my feet stripping off my sweat Pants tying one leg to a pipe protruding from the ceiling. Tying the other leg Around my neck. I felt out of options, however I was discovered. Another prisoner started yelling "Yo, Yo He's hanging up, he's hanging up !" The first Inmate to reach me tightened the pant leg around my neck trying to kill me.

I noticed this white dude doing dips on the bench connected to the wall, I Remember thinking "Damn this guys gonna have a hard time in here."At first Glance he looked like the type of kid that hung out practicing skateboard Tricks in a parking lot. " You gotta change that look on your face dude" he said mid dip. I wasn't sure he was speaking to me, " Your thinking about your girl, you can't worry about that shit dude" he was speaking to me and he was right, aside from not sleeping in three days all I could Think about was my girlfriend"He continued , "These guys in here will look in your eyes, take It for something else. " now the dips had turned to push-ups, "They'll think It's fear". They'd be right, I wanted to trust him, but the first rule of prison is ( D.T.A) "Don't Trust Anybody". As though he had been reading my thoughts He said " I know you don't know me and shit, but us white guys gotta stick Together ". It was true, in prison whites were overwhelmingly the minority. Of the 14,000 prisoners on Rikers Island whites made up about 3% 2% Asian 95% was African American and Latino. Of that 3% probably half were in "P.C" or Protective Custody, the few of us who soldiered on were easy targets. I just met this guy so I wasn't about to blab about my close encounter with Oral rape.
