Defining Love To A Four Year Old Whilst watching a well known TV dance programme, my husband and I started an intricate discussion on which of the male contestants might be gay, when our four year old daughter pipes up "Mummy what does being gay mean?" "Well..." I replied "you know that sometimes men and ladies love each other and sometimes they get married...being gay is when a man loves a man or a lady loves a lady and sometimes they love each other so much they also get married" Cue me smugly sitting back and smiling about my excellent answer to (yet another) challenging question from the four year old. Four year old ponders this for a moment, and then asks "So if I love monkeys mummy, whats that called?"
