Guinness World Record Poetry I haven’t been on Opus in ages but this is where I write my poetry. On IG I am @redfae and when I got invited to take part in this Guineas World Record for online poetry, I came here to choose my #poem. All you have to do is create a short video reading a #poem and submit. Your IG will be tagged to give you credit. I’ve never read my work out loud so it will be a good challenge for my personal development. I’ve still not chosen which #poem I’ll use but thought I’d share what I’m up to in case any of you are interested as I remember there were many incredible poets here.

NaPoWriMo Just asking if you are doing the NaPoWriMo Challenge next month? And, if @Honza is sharing Opusia as a website that will be posting at least one #poem a day It was started in 2003 by Maureen Thorson, a poet living in Washington, DC.  She was inspired by NaNoWriMo - hence the similar name.  It stands for National Poetry Writing Month.  The challenge is to write one #poem a day for the 30 days of April.   I am going to be taking part. I plan to post a #poem a day on my blog (https://allyaldridge.wordpress.com/), a weekly collection on Instagram and at the full collection on Wattpad at the end. I've not written any #poems in a while so I'm dreading how awful day 1 will be but I am hoping that by day 30, it won't be so bad. Good luck to anyone taking part. I'll be logging into Opusia to get some inspiration from you all. From my experience of this site, you guys should easily be able to win this challenge.

A spec A spec of light was born From it came a thread It grew and grew Getting longer and stronger Becoming a ball of yarn Then it caught and snagged Others pulled the thread It unravelled, Split and snappped Tugged until their was nothing left But a tiny light a spec

Deep blue He saw the beauty from the shore A distant damsel all forlorn Lost and stranded upon a rock Calmly combing her long blonde locks He built a boat at lightening speed Jumped in as it entered the sea The salty sea stung his face From saving her he’d not be discouraged As he got close he saw her tail? Yes, that’s right, I said a tail! It shimmered like a scaled fish A mermaid! Do they grant you a wish? He tried to coax her in the boat He tried to tempt her with his coat You’d think she’d rather like this As she was sitting there topless All he got was a mighty splash She dived in and made waves crash Our hero had a change of plan No longer her devoted fan He threw in a net to catch the beast Now calling her a cruel sea witch He hauled her on board Demanded his wish to be a dragons hoard Mermaids don’t grant wishes But this one did grant kisses He quickly took up her offer She turned him into an otter

NaNoWriMo Day 1 I took the challenge To write 50k Choose my project For the next thirty days Today’s day one And I’ve made a start I beat my goal With my wordy craft That may sound great Unless you saw The awful story Unedited and raw Thankfully the words Are on a screen Otherwise they’d lay Crumpled in a bin Or beside the loo To wipe my bum Writing soawful It’d shame my mum This months goal Is not for perfection Quantity not quality To reach my destination Day one was hard Over 47k to go Not sure I’ll make it But you never know... #NaNoWriMo
