The Lovers They were sitting together, side by side. Shoulders pressed together and legs tangled. Hands fused. Her eyes shut, she lay with her head in the crook of his neck. His free hand, stroked her hair and ran his fingers down her cheek, cupping it and rubbing it slowly, lovingly. Each breath carried his scent and in those few moments she knew the true meaning of tranquility. This is how forever feels like, she thought. She could not think of existing beyond the moment. He moved his hand further below, under her chin and raised her face. Their faces were close enough to feel each others ragged breathing, so full of expectation. She looked at him like she never had before, her brown eyes impervious yet so transparent with emotion, and he couldn’t help but catch his breath. What have done to deserve her? he wondered. She closed her eyes slowly and leaned forward, closing the last gap. And then, there was nothing else but them.
