Little Dilemma I bought a male Chinese dwarf hamster from the petstore about a week ago, and the lady told me he was the sweetest one in the store. I named him Snickers because he was brown with a thin black line running down his back. Within the first week, he bit (hard) five times. Needless to say, I've had a couple of scratches all over my arms, and some bled. I was told Chinese dwarf hamsters rarely bite. But he's nipped me 5 times in a week. I have a couple more days to decide if I want to keep him. What do you guys think? Keep him or return him to the store?

Its kind of hard to decide :S if this pet makes you feel insecure, there is no point in keeping him. try to find him a new home instead of getting rid of him (sounds sad). Have you checked if maybe he is scared or he is just getting used to you??

Give him time to adjust but immediately alert the pet store you want to retain the right to return him. Find a rodent whisperer ; )

My husbands suggestion: keep it and buy a python. He sucks.

@misaeldry Haha I actually meant to say that I wasnt sure if I should return him to the store, not throw him out like the text suggested. Lol. Yeah it is hard to decide I'd love to believe he's a good hamster, but he's unpredictable. One minute he's playful and the next minute he's grouchy. I've handled him at least once or twice a day so I figured he'd be familiar with me by now. :/

@ckahn How long do hamsters usually take to adjust to the environment and people? Lol it's funny your husband said that. The lady who sold me the hamster told me she has a python.

How old is he? The younger the better. I don't really know anything about hamsters. Have you googled hamster behavior? Maybe you should exchange him. Good luck. Tough decision.
