Renin-angiotensin-aldosterone System When the blood volume falls, kidneys secret renin which causes the activation of angiotensin, and creates angiotensin I, angiotensin I is converted to angiotensin II by an enzyme called angiotensin converting enzyme which is found in the lungs. Angiotensin II causes the constriction of muscles in the walls of arterioles which increases the blood pressure. Angiotensin II also causes the release of aldosterone hormone from adrenal glands. Aldosterone causes the kidneys to retain sodium ions (Na+). The retention of Na+ by kidneys leads to increased in movement of water into the renal capillaries, which causes the blood volume to increase. Now isn't that just beautiful??
