Digital Magazines I just downloaded Zinio app for iPhone. And I'm very disappointed. Well actually I'm not: I expected it to be a disappointment. How come digital publications mirror so much traditional ones? If I want to read Discover Magazine on the iPhone, it looks obvious enough to me that a plain digital copy of the paper magazine won't work at all. The text is uncomfortable to read because it's organized in columns, just like the original magazine. So you have to zoom in, scroll the column, then move to another one. Couldn't they make a version inspired to Instapaper? I mean wake up guys, reorganize the text in a mobile-friendly format! What if I want to save and share a paragraph? I can do it when I read blog posts on Instapaper, but I cannot do it with these so called digital magazines. Because text cannot even be selected. I reckon if I scanned the paper version of the magazine using whatever OCR software I could share the file online and people would like it more than those crappy digital versions. To me, "digital" means comfortable, this is not comfortable at all, it's just waste of money and time.
