Nothing The sound of the door swinging open alerts me to her presence, she has just got home from working in the library, I wonder to myself if she's had a good day or a bad one - and if it's a bad one if there's anything I can do to perk her spirits up. She runs upstairs and bursts in through the door to our bedroom, her eyes lit up like a firework display and her smile beaming from one end of her face to the next. I can tell she's enjoyed herself. I ask the pivotal question, "how was your day?" and she almost explodes with happiness, telling me the ins and outs of her day while also providing some subjective commentary on her colleagues as well as their work. "well hers wasn't very good" or something along the lines of "she's got a stick up her bum but her #poem was good" she would often remark. After about twenty minutes she turned to me and asked "how was your day lovey?" and I paused, wondering if I had accomplished anything noteworthy while she was out. I recalled complaining to the estate agent about some nonsense and chatting to the owner of the local game shop but I didn't feel it was worth bringing up. I wonder if maybe exaggerating a little of what I did today would brighten my - in comparison - boring day but I thought nah, I won't bother and just replied with a short but simple "nothing."
