Description:
The Spiral Concentrator is a device that separates the solid components of a slurry based on a combination of the density of the solid particles and the hydrodynamic properties of the particles (e.g. resistance). The device consists of a tower around which a sluice is wound. A tank or channel is then set in the bottom of the sluice to extract the solid particles from the suspension.
Working principle:
The larger, heavier particles sink faster to the bottom of the sluice and experience more resistance at the bottom. They then move slower and thus towards the centre of the device. In contrast, the lighter particles stay on the outside of the spiral with the water and quickly reach the bottom. At the bottom, a 'cut' consists of a set of adjustable bars, slots or channels that separate the low and high density fractions.
