Ignorance Some people are blinded Just spewing words of hate If common sense were so common There wouldn't be useless debates 'Oh she's an immigrant She doesn't belong here' May I remind you of the history Over the last few hundred years Native Americans lived Once called a land their home Only to have it invaded And have strangers rule and roam But you've forgotten that detail That important turn of events Instead you spew out bigotry I'm sure that's time well spent I am not here to judge you Only to educuate your mind You've found comfort in your ignorance The world has left you behind But alas There's still one small, dark corner Where hate and dismay Loom around like a mourner Racism and hate speech Only fuel for the fire Just take a step back This is not God's desire Jesus said love That means all included Not for the world to pick and choose Who is and who isn't excluded But you, you'd rather bask in ignorance Than open up your eyes To you there is no difference You're blinded by the lies When did love become about race The color of your skin Was it when man was exposed to others Those different from their kin And the question I pose is why Why does hate continue on It repeats over generations Like that one catchy song Except this song is broken Lyrics longing to be changed But the hearts of ignorant ones They refused to be rearranged They refuse accept the words "Love one another" Instead they would rather do things Like curse and beat their brother And sometimes, yes They will curse me too And all I can say is 'I feel sorry for you' One day you won't be blinded One day you will see This ignorance will dissipate At least, hopefully Please, do not condemn me I'm not here to preach to you Just simply here to say Ignorance has blinded your point of view 1.31.17 ©CherO'Bryant2017
