At School 1 What happens at school? Adults frequently ask this question. And it always bothers the kids, because they have nothing to say. Why? Is it just because they're too lazy to respond? Or because school is so repetitive and predictable that there is no point in asking, "how was your day at school"? If that's what you think, then... Man, you've got it all wrong, my friend. It was a cloudy Tuesday in the last few days of May. Seniors getting ready to graduate, sophomores and juniors dying of the "Black Finals Plague", and freshmen... well, being freshmen. This story all begins with an Asian sophomore, soon-to-be-junior, who lives in a community with almost no other Asian. Oddly enough, her name is Layla, which sounds like a white chick's name. But anyway... there was another thought antagonizing Layla that day. It was Daniel. Actually, not Daniel himself, but what her best friend had told her about Daniel. The previous week, Layla had confessed her most-likely-crush on Daniel to Retsa. Daniel also happens to be the only Asian guy around who is coincidentally the same age as Layla. The problem is, they only get to see each other about 3~5 times a year when they participate in the city college's piano recitals. So naturally, Retsa would not believe that Layla actually had a legitimate crush on the guy. But Layla could feel it. She had also primarily thought it was just teen hormones, but this was deeper than that. In fact, now that she thought more about it, they did know each other since elementary school. 'I wonder if he's thinking about me too?' 'I wonder what he's doing right now?' 'I wonder if he likes me too?' Whenever she sees a basketball player, she thinks of Daniel. But yesterday, Retsa had told her about a dream she had dreamt the night before. "Layla. Okay, don't get mad at me, but I had a dream last night about Daniel, and it was just so vividly engraved into my memory.. I have to talk it out of my system. And you know how I never remember any of my dreams. This is so weird, man. "So I was in a third person's POV, watching myself and Daniel talk. We were arguing about something really important, but I don't know what exactly we were yelling about. "But the weird thing is, once we were both hyped up on our distinct opinions and reached the climax of the argument, Daniel suddenly turned into a........." (To be continued)
