Chapter One (chapter one of my book; The Skies Are Blue) I sat with my mate, drinking in the victorious success of chatter around me. I was tired; my eyes were gaining control and drooping dangerously. My hand went limp and I dropped the bottle of wine I had been holding in a tight grip. I started nodding off when I heard a grumbling cough, and my eyes shot back open. I looked around, then up, and realised that I was looking straight up into the face of the king. "Sir!" I cried, ready in action, but hoping to be able to go home. "Charles. We are heading off now. Stand up, my boy!" My legs untangled themselves and I stood, waiting for the king to lead. I tagged along behind, feeling melancholy. The battle with the Vikings at Stamdord Bridge had been hard and long, but the promise of going home had kept me going... I sunk deeper into my thoughts about my Londoner's #life, failing to notice that the other troops had stopped marching. I came to an abrupt stop, and looked down at the floor where some soldiers had sat. Then I heard the king speak. "I have had news," he said. "The women on the fields has told me that the Normans are on their way. We must move quick. " he finished. My dreams of a warm bed were dashed as I scrambled to my feet as fast as I could and started marching again...
