Was This My Chance? Peering through the tall grass, I thought I'd seen it. Some meat. An abandoned kill. I rubbed my eyes and pinched myself to check if I was dreaming, I wasn't. I had a quick look around me to see if there was any other animals that wanted MY food. There wasn't. I legged it towards the meat, not stopping for anything. At last I'd found some food, I felt so proud of myself. I devoured the Gazelle, savouring every bite. I knew that I deserved this meat, I had earned this kill. This Gazelle was MINE and NO ONE would take it away from me. I didn't end up finishing the whole thing so I dragged the rest back to my little shelter to eat another day. Every mouthful counted. But now, I had another problem, I was thirsty. You can survive a few weeks without food, only around 3 days with no water. I wandered around, trying to find a watering hole. Lucky for me, it was only a 10 minute walk from my shelter. When I arrived, there was plenty of other animals: Hippos, Giraffes, Elephants, Monkeys, Zebras. I didn't stay for long. I took a few big gulps of water and started choking. Then, one of the Giraffes hit me in the back and I fell into the water. I stopped choking but everyone started to laugh at me. So I left. I arrived back at my shelter and my Gazelle was still there. "I love you Mum." I whispered to myself, a tear rolling down my cheek. And off to sleep I fell...
