A Silhouette "What is a silhouette?" The child asked. I looked down at the child's eyes, big and curious. "Just you wait," I said "Until 5'O clock." And I raised my hand to guide the child's eyes to the Coo Coo Clock. "But why, one whole hour? Oh do tell me now, what is a silhouette?" An hour past and the desired question was still unanswered. The coo coo clock made a sharp noise piercing the silence with the child following in sounds of excitement. I was suddenly pulled to my feet and my book was thrown half way across the lounge. I gently took the child's small soft hand into mine. "We're going to go for a walk in the woods" I said in a excitable tone if voice. "But why, it's almost dark it'll be creepy!" The child said sounding a little alerted. I let out a little giggle, "see the beauty in it, the shadows, texture, colour it's so beautiful just you see, don't be scared. The child gave a smile. I lifted their coat over their shoulders and softly fastened every little button. I held out my hand and the child took it in theirs. We stepped outside and walked all the way into the shadowed woods. "You see that tree?" I said pointing. "The way it's just a black cut out against the darkening sky.. And you see that crow?" I pointed. "As it flaps it's wings it looks almost cartoon like.. And you see us?" I gave the child's hand a gentle squeeze. "Against that darkening sky, I bet we make nice silhouettes too." The child looked up to me and gave me a satisfied smile, I replied with another. We walked back home, and had hot chocolate, tea and chocolate brownies. And just as we finished the coo coo clock struck 6.
