The Voices Told Me To... Chapter 4 Jason was tall with short shaggy black hair that covered his eyes slightly. He was big, the quarterback on the football team to be exact. He looked like the kind of guy that would break your arm for looking at him the wrong way, but when you talked to him he was caring, funny, and compassionate. Anna loved that about him, but she still had a creeping thought to be scared of him. He never did anything to hurt her, but she could never be too careful. He had black eyes that reminded her of the white rabbit’s eyes, the small black penetrating knowing eyes that she hated with a passion. They walked in through the large double doors, and into the lunch room. She saw their friends sitting in the corner of the table in the back. Jennifer, Matt, Kelly, Samantha, Kasey, Alex, and Bryan all sat together. Jen and Matt were all over each other like usual, Kasey was talking to Kelly and Samantha about makeup tips, and Bryan was arguing with Alex about video games when they walked up. Jason looked at Bryan. “Slide over bro, I need a seat.” Bryan slid down and Jason sat down then slid down some for Anna to sit down. She sat quietly listening to everyone else’s conversations. “What do you think Anna? Do you use pencil eyeliner, liquid, or the twist tube stuff?” Kasey asked. Kelly and Samantha were looking at her expectantly for the right answer. “Put pencil on the bottom because it’s darker and makes a thin line and liquid on the top.” She said closing her eyes to show them. “I can’t even see your top eyeliner through your eyelashes. They’re so damn long. I’m jealous.” Samantha said crossing her arms over her chest, making Anna smile, all of her self-consciousness had disappeared. “My mom used to say I had the prettiest eyes, and then Anna came over.” Kelly said giggling. Then Kasey, Kelly, and Samantha went on talking about Anna’s eyes and comparing each others. Anna decided to exit the conversation; she looked over and saw Jason arguing with Bryan and Alex about some new video game that just came out. Jason had already bought it and decided it was a waste of money. Alex agreed but Bryan said it was the best game he’s ever played. Anna put her fingers on her temples and pushed trying to rid herself of her terrible headache. She closed her eyes and ignored everything around her, she saw images of her dream she had not even two hours ago pass through her mind, she saw the white rabbit’s eyes, and she remembered how scared she was when Rachelle was in the kitchen with her this morning. Why was I even scared? It was around time to go to school so she was going to be up. Why am I still scared? They died nine years ago, the man hasn’t been caught but he also hasn’t murdered anyone else. She calmed herself trying to clear her mind when she realized everyone was quiet. She looked up and her friends were staring at her. She felt her face get red and she apologized. “Sorry, I’m tired. I got no sleep last night and now I have a headache from it.” “Don’t apologize, are you okay?” Kasey asked. “My mom gets headaches like that and she takes meds for it that makes her pass out for hours! Nothing can wake the woman up when she takes them.” Samantha said matter-of-factly. “I don’t need sleeping pills.” Anna said flatly. “Shiit... They’re more like tranquilizers!” She laughed. Anna smiled, but was kind of annoyed. She wanted today to be over all ready she still felt like something bad was going to happen either today or sometime soon. She sat there engaging in short conversations but not exerting any energy on gossiping or school work until the bell rang. She grabbed her stuff and hurried to her homeroom after kissing Jason bye and telling her friends she see them later. She walked upstairs to the H hallway and went in Mr. Ripley’s homeroom. She was so happy she had no friends in there or in her first mod, the last thing she wanted to do was talk. She just wanted to sleep…
