Summer In England The days long and languishing Summer trips on fantastic with a bristling heat Oxygen fuelled youths with proud chicken breasted chests strip off Pinked from the sunburn, Children sit unimpressed in paddling pools whilst mums take a breather Crispy skinned older ladies bejewelled in porn shop gold pass by, they are orange, I sit turning the pages of my book, the paper has curled in the sun and the cover is warm to hold The grass is poking through my sandals as I uncomfortably wriggle Tomorrow I shall take the same spot and turn my face to the light like a field of resplendent sunflowers making happy. But only if the rain holds off
