Lonely I thought things would be different when Katniss returned from the Quarter Quell. I was right...and wrong. Things are different. I thought they'd be different in a good way. But they're not. They're different in a bad way. Katniss doesn't pay attention to me any more. She's caught up in a silly love triangle, her, Peeta and Gale. Even I, the patient one, wish she would hurry up and choose! I do know how hard it is, of course. My mother is downstairs. I think she's knitting. I'm sitting on my bed reading a book with Buttercup curled up on my lap. I don't know what Katniss is doing, and there's a good chance she doesn't know what I'm doing. She never pays me any attention any more. I may as well be invisible. Buttercup has started hissing at her again, and he bit her yesterday. I think he knows how upset she's making me. I would go and play with Johanna, but she isn't awake yet. It's about six in the morning, so I'm not surprised. "Mum, I'm going to see Gale!" Katniss calls. An unfamiliar feeling rises up and threatens to choke me. It's anger. So, she'd rather be with Gale than me, her own sister? I run down the stairs, blind fury giving me wings. Buttercup is right behind me. I stop behind Katniss. Buttercup skids to a halt and peers around my legs. "Katniss?" I say, trying to sound calm. She turns round, and I see recognition flicker in her eyes, which annoys me all the more. She has to recognise me? She's changed more than I thought. "What is it Prim?" She asks. Well, she remembers my name, at least. My next move comes into my head, and it shocks me, but I know I have to do it. I raise my hand, and slap her round the face with every bit of strength I have. My hand stings with the force of it. Buttercup yowls in surprise. "Primrose?" My mother calls. "What was that?" I don't answer her. I am watching Katniss' face turn bright red and tears come into her eyes. I scoop up Buttercup and run back upstairs. I drop my cat on the floor and throw myself face down on my bed and burst into tears. Buttercup leaps up beside me. He nudges under my arm and starts licking my face. I turn over and hug him tightly. He's the only friend I have left in the world.
