Fire And Blood This is the Field of Fire come again. I sit in my tent, with Drogon on my lap. My black hisses and a flame twists out of his mouth, burning a hole in my dress. Viserion is curled around my feet. Despite all the shouting, the clashing of steel against steel, and the agonised cries of dying men, he is fast asleep. While his brothers are peaceful, Rhaegal is restless. My green and autumn bronze dragon is flapping around, shrieking in fury and fear. The noise is making him angry. Suddenly he screams and flies straight through the open flap of the tent. "No!" I screamed. I leapt to my feet. Viserion woke up, and he let out a burst of flame, scorching my feet. I nearly fell from the pain. Drogon was tipped right off my lap. As I ran past him he sunk his claws deep into my calf to let me know he was not pleased. I ran onto the battlefield. "Khaleesi, no!" Aggo called, while slashing viciously at a man three times his size with the arakh I had given him. "It's not safe for you, Khaleesi! Go back inside!" Rakharo shouted, putting his shield in front of his face as a man swung his axe down. "What are you doing out here, Khaleesi?" Ser Jorah yelled at me. "Rhaegal!" I shrieked, in a blind panic. "He grew restless of the noise and he flew out. Have you seen him?" Ser Jorah scanned the field, and I looked among the fire and smoke, choking on the scent of blood and death that fills the air around me. "There!" Ser Jorah shouted, pointing to where the fighting was thickest. My heart sank. Then I saw a flash of bronze, and a summer green streak. I didn't even stop to think. I ran straight through the men, shoving them out of my way. A fatally injured man collapsed on me. I pushed him off and ran on till I saw Rhaegal clearly. A huge man who towers over me is slashing at him with a curved sword made of Valyrian steel that flashes blue every time he brings it down. "No!" I scream. Rhaegal sees me and flies to me as fast as he can. The man follows. He stops when he sees me. Then he laughs. "Mhysa" He says. I hold my head high. "Mhysa" I reply in Ghiscari. I lifted my arm up in the air. "Rhaegal!" I shouted, and pointed to the man. Rhaegal flew to him and hovered a few metres above his head. The man tried to bat him away, and got bitten. He screamed, dragon venom sinking in. I've got him weakened. Now is the time. "Rhaegal. Dracarys" I commanded. Rhaegal opened his mouth and unleashed a stream of scarlet and orange fire. The man screamed in agony, sounding like a little girl. "Khaleesi! Daenerys!" Ser Jorah shouted. "He cannot see through the smoke and fire,"I realised. "He thinks its me screaming." He came charging blindly through the smoke, and he slashed wildly with his sword, his eyes red and streaming from the smoke, unable to see at all. His sword hit me on the shoulder, and sliced it straight open. I felt the blood start to pour out. Then the pain came. It stung so badly that I screamed. I could not stand up. I fell to my knees on the sand. I pressed my face into it and screamed and screamed. The blood spilt onto the sand, staining the gold a bright ruby. Gasping and sobbing, I crawled forward on my knees, away from Ser Jorah, still whirling around, frantically cutting at nothing with his sword. I got through the smoke and the fire. I'm weak from blood loss, and I know that I can't go much longer. I hear screeching, and I find strength enough to lift my head up a little way. I see the impossible. It is Balerion and Vhagar, alive again. I blink, and raise a bloodstained hand to rub my eyes. This time, I see Viserion and Drogon, flying to find their brother. A sharp stab of pain makes me cry out. A second later, it happens again. Each is worse than the previous one. I try to sit up, but when I do, the pain explodes all over my body, and I fall to the ground again. Targaryens are supposed to like the fire, they are the blood of the dragon, but this fire is too much. "No" I whimpered. "Too much, too hot, I can't bear it, oh gods! Make it stop, oh please, make it stop!" I shrieked. All I see in front of me is fire and blood. The vivid orange columns fly up in all directions. The pools of blood flow freely, running past me, turning my body red. "Should've stayed in the tent! Why can't I ever just do what I'm told!" I thought. Now I'm going to die here, a girl of fifteen, while most of my khalasar fight to the death, and my dragons burn men where they stand. Rhaegal is probably dead. He is the smallest of my three dragons, of my three children. My black and red Drogon, my cream and gold Viserion, they will live on, and burn the man that killed their brother. I knew they would outlive me. Dragons outlive all men, even Targaryens. "Valar morghulis" I whispered, the tears running down my face. "Valar morghulis, valar morghulis!" I wept. "Please, gods, if I am to die, let me do it quickly! After all, valar morghulis!" My voice sounds loud, which is strange, because I can barely speak for pain. Then I realise that the field has fallen silent. The second Field of Fire is over. "Valar morghulis" I said again. "Valar dohaeris!" Faint voices shouted. Aggo and Rakharo came charging out of the ruin. "Khaleesi!" I managed to raise my voice a little. "Valar morghulis!" I shouted. "Valar dohaeris!" They shouted back. They dropped to their knees at my side. "Khaleesi, what happened?" Rakharo looked upon my wound in horror. "I was trying to save Rhaegal. I managed to distract the man. Rhaegal heard my voice and came to me. The man called me "Mhysa" I told Rhaegal to hover over his head. The man tried to hit him, and got bitten. Then I said "Dracarys" and Rhaegal burnt him alive. Ser Jorah heard the screaming, which sounded like a little girl's. He thought it was me, and came charging to rescue me. But the smoke made him unable to see, and he cut me with his sword" I explained, then another fierce wave of pain coursed through me. The agony was so great that I let out a high, ringing scream. Someone echoed it. I heard three soft thumps as my dragons landed on the sand next to me. They curled up against my side, nuzzling close. "We will get you healed, Khaleesi" Rakharo promised. I smiled and shook my head. "Blood of my blood, I cannot be saved. I am weak from blood loss, and the pain is slowly tearing me apart. I am grateful to both of you for putting your #life in danger for me." I said. "No!" Aggo shouted, furious. "We will carry you back to the tent. Then we will make you better." I let them lift me up, and start carrying me back across the field. My dragons noticed, and they flew after us. In the tent, Rakharo sewed up my shoulder. It had been torn right open. Then Aggo poured pale red firemilk on it, which burned, but then began to put out the fire that burned inside me. They left me to sleep. Rhaegal crawled up next to my face. "You silly dragon" I told him. "I could have been killed because of you. So could your brothers." He let his head hang down, and his tail swished on the rug miserably. "Oh, don't." I said. "Go back and lie with your brothers. Go to sleep now. That means all of you!" I said, as Viserion and Drogon opened their eyes to see what was going on. They quickly shut their eyes again. Rhaegal curled up next to them and he was soon fast asleep as well. I yawned, and pulled my silver blonde hair out of its braid. I removed the bells, and took off my bloodstained, sand covered violet dress with the burn hole that Drogon made in it. I pulled a cover up over myself, careful not to let it touch my shoulder, because its still really painful. I touched it tentatively with the tip of my little finger. It hurt so much that it brought tears to my eyes and spilt them all down my cheeks. I have a few words to say to Ser Jorah when I wake up. I may let Rhaegal give him a small burn, just as a little bit of revenge. I pulled the cover further up over me. Now that all the fire from the fight has been put out, it seems a lot colder round here. I curled myself up into a ball, resting my head on a velvet cushion. I spent a while reliving all the events of the day in my head, horror after horror, kill after kill, triumph after triumph. I'm glad my khalasar were the ones that came out victorious. Thanks to my dragons as well, they burnt many a man where he stood today. Most of us would have surely been killed if they had not gone out there. I closed my eyes and fell asleep.
