A Nightingale In A Golden Cage She wasn't anything fancy. Anymore pretty, then any other girl here. Miss Annabel calls her nightingale. "Like that bird" miss will say "so plain yet such a beautiful voice" but I don't get it because she doesn't have a nice voice. Miss said it was a metaphor and asked if I ever learned proper English. And I told her no of course because I was learning how to survive not write or talk proper. Miss then said "well you see that girl, she isn't particularly pretty but she is well-spoken and clever-unlike you girl" How rude that she calls her nightingale and me 'girl' and it doesn't sound that bad till you hear her say it. Like I'm a child or something. But the thing is I might not be as smart or come from as good a background as the other girls but I'm a hell of a lot more grown up. So I've been reading to prove miss Annabel wrong. And I have learnt she is not really like a nightingale. More like a nightingale in a golden cage-See I've got the art of metaphor down packed. But I'll tell you why I think that. She is so controlled and alone. And put up like she is this model example of what we should be and no one ever sees her as a person. So maybe I'll settle for just being 'girl' cause at least I'm a person. Not some bird locked in a cage. #titlechallenge #nightingale
