Thomas Edison Introduction I chose to do Thomas Edison as my project because I want to be an inventor. I dream of having more inventions than he did. When I become famous it will be very fun. I will do well because I am excited and passionate about inventions and inventing. About Thomas Edison: Thomas Edison was born February 11,1847. He grew up in Port Huron, Michigan. He didn't start to talk till he was 4 years old, but when he did, he asked a LOT of questions. He was friends with Henry Ford and contributed to the automobile. Fun Facts One of Thomas Edison's most famous #quotes is: "If I find 10,000 ways something doesn't work I haven't failed. Every wrong try is a step forward." His mother home schooled him. His parents were Canadian but he considered himself of Dutch ancestry. Thomas Edison only had three months of schooling and no science training at all. He learned most things from books. He developed hearing problems from an early age. His first project was to improve the telegraph. He dropped acid on his bosses desk and once set his Dad's barn on fire. Twenty eight men were Edison pioneers. Thomas Edison did NOT make the first light bulb. He had more inventions than any inventor.Jobs Thomas Edison once had a job on a train. He sold candies and newspapers on the train. He started this job when he was twelve years old. He once saved a child from a train. The child's father gave him a job as a telegraph operator. This is how he learned the basics of electricity.Inventions Thomas Edison invented the carbon microphone and kinitoscope. He also invented the first vote recorder and phonograph. He also invented the light bulb which was his most famous invention. Thomas Edison invented the light bulb in 1879. He also invented a stock ticker and over 1000 more things. In 1876, Edison opened his most famous laboratory in New Jersey. Over the next five years, he developed a telephone transmitter, and the first system of incandescent electric light and power. After moving to New York , Edison used the laboratories at his manufacturing shops to improve lighting technology. In 1887, he opened a new and larger laboratory in New Jersey. During the thirty-five years he worked at this laboratory, he invented the first successful motion picture camera, developed better phonograph and record technology, created a system for refining low-grade iron ore, invented an alkaline storage battery, and improved cement manufacturing technology. CONCLUSION In conclusion, Edison invented many of the things we use in our everyday lives, such as the light bulb, batteries, and the movie camera. I admire him because he never stopped trying even when he failed.
