Insomnia There came a point when you said you couldn't stay up with me at night And drag your finger back & forth across my thigh And let me listen to your voice. You got tired and I was left sleepless, right beside you, as you drifted. All I could do was stare at the dark nothingness, Listen to the way you breathe and moan in your sleep, And sometimes I would reach out and touch you, And sometimes you would grab my hand in your sleep and just hold it. I would wait, with my hand in yours, Until the brightness from the sky was seeping through the windowsills, And I'd be able to close my eyes. I'd feel you as you got up in the morning, When I was falling asleep, And you'd kiss my cheek and say you love me through that Southern drawl. And when you'd get home I would make us dinner and you were always so happy, And I was so happy. And eventually I was able to sleep at night again, Wake up with you, Wash your body with my hands in our morning shower, And make you coffee. And that was all I ever really wanted.
