The Little Mermaid There was once, A little red-haired girl, Who wasn't very happy, With just the human world. Every night she dreamed, Of swimming with a tail, Through the deep blue ocean, With bright shimmering scales. She could hold her breath, For hours on end, In these little dreams, Her mind playing pretend. She loved the night time, She could revisit her home, A place with no boundaries, A place she could be alone. No screams from the baby, No shouts from upstairs, No arguments, no negativity, Just peacefulness was shared. She wanted such a #life, So badly it pained her soul, At first it was just a dream, Now it had engulfed her whole. She'd sit on her bed crying, A tear dropped on her lap, She got an idea, This is what made her snap. She didn't dry her face, Or wipe away the tears, She found some heavy weights, And went to face her fears. Standing at the pools edge, Weights tied from every side, She looked down and imagined, She looked down and cried. This is what I want, She repeated to herself, I want to spend my #life, In the water, by myself. So she jumped and waited, For the relief to start, But nothing ever came, But the decreasing of the beating from her damaged heart. She swallowed the chlorine, And closed her pained eyes, She'd never see again, The blue of the skies. She'd never feel love, The way that others do, She'll never have the chance, Unlike you.
