OUR HEAD-OF-DISTRICTS RESPONSE TO MY EMAIL... Thank you for your e-mail. Although you didn't identify yourself as such, I am assuming you are a Wayzata student with an district-issued iPad. The short story is that we have placed restrictions on the built-in text messaging application on the iPad called iMessage. As we went through the year we had negative feedback from parents, principals, assistant principals and our MyWay teacher leaders about two things, one was games in general and the second was iMessage. In an attempt to slow down the game distractions we removed game center from the device which only disallows the social connection of the games, but not the games themselves. We also blocked a few games that were deemed to be a major distraction to the learning environment. At the end of the school year we put a similar block on the application in response to the adult requests. The MyWay Leadership Team and the majority of adults agreed that these changes were the right thing to do. The unintended consequence is that it will have a negative impact on our students, at least from the students' perspective. Teachers informed us that there is no educational benefit to iMessage and it is a huge distraction in class. While I appreciate the inconvenience of losing some of your connectivity, the MyWay initiative is primarily focused on the educational value of the device and we will continue to seek its best use and maximize its effectiveness. I hope this helps to provide you with some clarification. Enjoy your summer! Well, WTF!!!!! I hate this guy even more now! I CANT TALK ON iMESSAGE ANYMORE AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH *WORLD ENDS*
