Chapter 1 - Whispers I stare at the young prey with my greedy eyes waiting for my chance to attack. The young girl walks carefully trying to muffle the sound of her slow footsteps but it doesn't help, her footsteps echoe around the treehouse making the rest of the whisperers notice the girl. One of my friends Yas starts to lurch forward hungry for the girls soul. "back off she's mine" I demand with a screaching whisper. I see the girl shudder "Who are you?" she cries out, "Hmm... she must be a listener" one of the old whisperers says his voice sounds more like a struggled breath of air then a whisper. "Leave me alone!" Small puffs of air leave my dry mouth as I laugh "Silly girl we didn't invite you into our home.. so now you pay the price." I place my dull grey face alarming close to her and let my thick black hair fall to my side, I stare at her with my blank green whisperer eyes. She doesn't know where I am so it's time for a surprise... I place my long grey fingers on her boney shoulders and pull her into the back of the tree house. She digs her heels into the ground as she screams and struggles, but even though I am barely touching her my strength is to much for her to handle. She dangles out of the back door, hanging over the dry ground surrounding the treehouse. I let my long fingers slowly let go and she falls. Leaves crackle under her weight as she crumbles onto the ground. A floating gold mist rises out of her mouth when she hiccups. As it floats past I beckon at it my boney finger crunching as I lure in her soul. "Look we've got a good spirit" I snicker as I dissapear clasping onto the soul. When I return I am flickering, changing from the grey expressionless shape of me to the Blonde haired beauty of the girl. I stare at the mirror in the corner of the room, I now have long blonde curls that whisp down and hug my shoulders, my now blue eyes twinkle in the suns reflection Then that beauty blows up and I am back to my normal look. I stare into the mirror but I no longer have a reflection. You see whisperers don't have a reflection because mirrors are invented by the 'Soulders' and so the only time I can see a reflection in a mirror is when I have freshly eaten a soul. I will never look like that girl again, and neither will she I think as I walk over to the door. The Soulder lies on the ground expressionless. She stands up and her eyes roll into the back of her head, she begins to walk aimlessly around. Her mouth looks almost glued on as it hangs there in the center of her face drooping. A flash of black zooms past and runs straight through the girl and takes her away to the land of the drained. It's where all of the #lifeless soulders go, forever wandering hearing only whispers of what they last heard."The freshly drained Soulders always look the worst" I hiss shaking my head, "Soulders?" asks a loud voice definitely not the voice of a whisperer. We turn around and standing there isn't one but two Soulders. "Aren't we lucky? Dinner" proclaims one of the whisperers in a snaky whisper. The girl stands up right next to me and touches her forehead to mine "I asked you a question, the least your dry, grey and scaly lips can do is reply! Now what is a Soulder?" She demands. "For your information a Soulder is our name for human, it stands for Soul-Holder and seeing that you appear to be human you are a Soulder" a voice whispers from behind me, "wait your not quite human are you?" I but in before the girl has a chance to speak "No real Soulders can see us, so what are you?" She just stands there staring at me with her green eyes. "Now I asked you a question and the least you can do is answer, speak" I glare at her. "I'm human" "well of couse your human" exclaims the girl standing next to her, "first you said you heard whispers coming from the treehouse and now you are going on about nonsenses!" filthy Soulder I think to myself, she doesn't even bother to listen. She needs to learn to listen a smile spreads across my whole face as I think of the possibilities, but then I think back to the girl that can see us. "She needs to be destroyed or at least taken away, we can't have anyone exposing our secret!" cries out a fellow whisperer, his voice draining out on the end of each word. An arruption of whispers begin. I listen to the hisses of the whisperers but I soon block them out as I get an idea of my own, but for this idea to work she has to be HAUNTED BY THE WHISPER...
