Eraserhead: The Fear of Fatherhood Through a Lynchian Perspective Eraserhead, if you haven't seen it, is a fantastically weird movie that leaves you with all sorts of wonderful questions such as: "I'm going to have really weird dreams tonight, aren't I?" or the most popular, "Is the main character just living in a really terrible neighborhood, or was that a dystopian future setting?" The setting David Lynch paints is in equal parts gross and sad. Sometimes, it's oddly beautiful because of it's gorgeous noir-inspired imagery. Tiny roast chickens bleed goop and spermatazoo-like creatures appear from every corner. David Lynch is the master of weird imagery. Heck, he even creates his own props to achieve his vision. To do this day, he will not reveal how his deformed baby prop was created. Nor can people even begin to guess what it was made of. Now, without being pretentious, I'll just give a short review. This film is disturbing in an oddly wonderful way. Like a raft on a lazy river, one just goes along for this fantastically odd ride through David Lynch's mind. Keep in mind, his daughter was 3 when this movie was made. Clearly, the first-time father experiences were fresh in his mind and he simply made a nightmare version of it. My final consensus is that it is a great film in a strange and unsettling way. But, be warned, this film is most certainly not for everybody; especially those who are faint of heart or easily nauseated.
