Children Of The Night (6) Chapter 6 The house was quiet when Ava returned. She peeked into Macy's room, a large ball of covers with two feet lay on the bed. She headed for her room, not really tired but it was where she spent most of her time when she was home. Her laptop blinked on the desk that was on the far side of her room. She glanced at it as she slipped her shoes off and changed into her favorite Dr Pepper pajama pants and a white t-shirt. The screen said she had an unread instant message. Ava clicked on her messenger as she sat in the chair. It was from Gwen, and the message made her heart drop. "Another one found dead just down the street from the theater. This shit is freaking me out, message me when you get home." Ava typed her a quick message, "Hey, made it home safe and sound." She was about to shut off the computer and lay down when a new friend request popped up. Curious, she clicked to see who it was from. She smiled as Pierce's name showed. Ava accepted the request, then shut down her computer. Tired, she collapsed on her bed. The sun shone through her window, forcing Ava to open her eyes. With a groan, she sat up. The light glinted off the silver ring she had on her left thumb. It was engraved all over with stars. Ava walked to the bathroom, grabbing her hairbrush. As she ran it through her auburn tangles she was glad she had the ring because without it she would have burnt to nothingness the minute the sun touched her. Ava threw on a pair of jeans and her Bob Marley t-shirt. She slipped on the ballet flats from the previous night and grabbed her laptop bag. Ava wrapped up the cord and placed it in the special power cord bag. She shoved the computer in the bag and zipped it up. Macy could be heard downstairs bustling around in the kitchen. The smell of fresh coffee and pancakes wafted up the stairs. Ava followed the smell down the stairs and into the kitchen. "Smells great." She grabbed a cup filling it with coffee. As she added the sugar and creamer Ava glanced at Macy. The girl was in her pajamas still and her blonde hair was in a messy ponytail. "No classes today?" she asked, sipping on the coffee. "No, sadly not today." "Well lucky you, I'm actually thinking about withdrawing." Macy's eyes grew large, "Drop out? Why?" "It's just a drag. Why spend all this time sitting in classes and doing work when I have so many years ahead of me? I can do it at any time." Ava grabbed a plate, piling it with fluffy yumminess. She spread butter over the cakes, dousing them with syrup. The girl sat them on the table, moving her bag from the chair she had sat it on. Ava sat down, taking large bites and gulping down her caffeinated beverage. "You would really drop out?" Macy asked her, sitting in the seat next to her roomie. Ava swallowed the bite she had been chewing, then nodded. "Yeah, I'm going to head to the office today and withdraw. I have so much time, why would I waste it on school right now." Macy shook her head, looking at Ava like she was crazy. Ava shrugged and they finished their breakfast in silence.
