Chapter 2. Roslynlee We were halfway to Edinburgh when I woke up from dozing off on Rhys' knee. Jessie's Girl by Rick Springfield came on, just in time! I loved this song from Rhys constantly playing it. I sat up and Rhys smiled at me and sorted my hair out. We all started singing along, these were always the highlights of the car journeys, especially the fact that two men six years older than Hannah and I could sing at a higher pitch than we could, hilarious. This was a 43 minute journey, and Jessie's Girl took up 3 minutes of that, minus the time it had taken us to already get where we were, of course. I genuinely always fell asleep in the back of the car anyway, so I lay back down so my head was on Rhys' lap again, and even though there was heavy metal rock music blasting loudly from the car speakers after peaceful Jessies Girl I still had no difficulty dozing off, you learn to get used to it after a while. "Wake up flaps, we've arrived at Roslynlee" I woke up to Rhys singing in my ear over and over, in the same tune as "Wake me up, when September ends" Very creative Rhys.. I sat up and had a look at Rhys' expression. "Oh, um, you're awake.." He said embarrassingly "Yeah I know, and you're an awful singer.." I said giggling and began getting out the car. Rhys paused then realised what I said and shoved my ass, I fell forward smacking my face off the car next to us. I heard Rhys and Andrew explode into laughter and then run around to me crumbled on the floor to see of I was alright. "Oh my fucking god!" Rhys exclaimed still laughing "Are you okay?!" He held out his hand and helped me up. I gave him a hard glare and then began to walk away. Rhys followed me and began trying to convince me to speak to him. "Flaps, look at me I'm naked. Look, Blink182 poster! Lynn, aw Lynn I'm sorry, please talk to me." He went on. I stood still and he came to a sharp halt and put his hands on my waist. So I put my hands on his shoulders and gave him a cuddle. I heard him sniff a deep inhalation. "Rhys what are you doing?!" I shouted "Your hair smells nice.." He laughed. I nodded and we started walking. Andrew and hannah caught up behind us. "You sleep like a rock by the way!" He said to me patting me on the head "Rocks don't sleep." I replied sarcastically. "Shes right, Dude." Rhys added. I walked faster ahead to catch up with Hannah, who was always glued to her phone. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram. You name it, she'd have it. We got caught up in conversation about "Remember When's" when Andrew shouted "Stop!" Me and Hannah spun around. "Hannah, rocks sleep don't they? Cause they're just sitting there all the time, they've got to be!" Andrew explained Hannah opened her mouth to say something and then shook her head and had a giggle. Andrew pointed at me, and questioned "They do, right?" Andrew was a fairly intelligent man, hearing these highly idiotic words slobber from his mouth was a strange thing. "Uh, no they don't sleep because they're inanimate objects, not alive.." I answered "HA!" Rhys shouted pointing in Andrews face. "But they... Nature.. Eugh.. I give up" Andrew said laughing and we continued up the path to Roslynlee. One thing we were aware of was the guards building, and the guards themselves. The guards building, obviously for night duties, resembled a large house, no idea what was inside, but from a previous visit we decided we were feeling mischievous and peeked inside one of the windows, only to find an empty bed and a naked desk. We reached the window in which we always snuck in, only to find Andrew press his hands up against the glass, basically his disappointed way of telling us that the glass wasn't shattered anymore. "Okay. This is hard to say guys." Andrew sniffled "But we're going to have to go through the.. the.. The door!!" We all gasped over-dramatically. This was an inside joke, the door wasnt that interesting, it was pretty shit. The door was our exit, it was on the ground floor next to the paediatric ward which we always found creepy. We ventured around the corner and Andrew held back his hand to signal is to stay where we were. He paced down the hill and reached the door, we saw him hold his head high, as if praying that this goddamn door wasn't closed up like our other enter point. He put his hand on the door handle and exhaled, then with a small, quiet movement he moved with the door, opening it! He raised his fist in the air and whispered something, which we couldn't hear as he was more than a metre away from us! I turned around to Rhys to say "yes!" In excitement, but to soon realise he wasn't there, I spun back around to see him running down the hill shouting "yay!!!!" He caught his foot on a rock, squealed and landed on his face. Me and hannah found it difficult to hold in a laugh, it was sort of mandatory that we did though, the guard would be out on night duty. Hannah and I made our own way down the hill, we werent making the same mistake Rhys did, we warily walked down, ducked under the metal railing and into the ward. The door slammed shut, and we all jumped, I did too, we looked around at each other and laughed. Too be honest, I was quite timid, but with this kind of thing I was actually alright. I used to be petrified of the dark, until Andrew and Rhys dragged hannah and I out to these old abandoned buildings from Thursdays to Sundays every week. Thursdays starting our adventures because Rhys lived in Haddington, Edinburgh. And he only came through on a Thursday because he was working the rest of the week. Genuinely what was catching my attention at that present time was the fact that we all about shit out a brick from getting a fright at the door closing us in there. Was I the only one to take into consideration what was actually in there? What awaited us? What we were yet to discover?
