Lights New York blares in, Slamming into walls And careening into shelves and nightstands, Screaming like an alarm clock. Florida laughs its way slowly through the window, Swirling like lazy palms in a breeze As it reaches towards you, To bring you along as it goes. Chicago slips mischievously into the room, Shaking you up with a grin, Like an eagerly anticipated friend Throwing rocks at the window. San Francisco wafts in, With dreamy eyes and a too-innocent smile, Giggling across the room As it trips over your things. Seattle glows through the curtains, Singing lowly as it fills the room With quiet energy, While the city waits for morning. Philadelphia settles in like dust after a wind, Softly, wearily, putting down the weight of the world, Shining unfailingly on through the dark, Saying "I'll still be here when you wake."
