Toad In The Hole
Since starting University I have come across some funny stories from other students. Most who are at the age of 18-21 and have never left home. They don't know how to cook, and have no idea how to work a washing machine or that you have to separate your whites. Another fun fact is that they didn't know a loaf of bread has an expiry date (it's usually replaced by the parents) The list goes on! But we all have to learn sometime eh?!
This story is about a certain guy on my course, I won't name names, lets just call him "Ben."
We had just finished a lecture and we were lining up in the hall way, waiting to return our MacBooks. Ben and I were discussing people who weren't attending the lectures. I asked him "why didn't you show up to two last week Ben?" He replies "oh, oh my God Polly, I was so ill. I just couldn't make it in!" I replied "why, what was wrong?" He said "I cooked myself dinner and made a toad in the hole, right? Well I was cooking the batter and forgot about the sausages in the freezer so I quickly took them out and chucked them in with the batter". At this point I was laughing, almost rolling on the floor. His face was priceless, as though the flavours from this dish were bringing back memories. He went on to say "so I thought it was all cooked and I took it out of the oven and sliced one of the sausages with my knife, little bit pink in the middle. I just didn't want it to go to waste, I had spent a bit of money on this, so I ate it all". A shade of green appeared on Ben's face.
Safe to say, he won't be having toad in the hole for a while!
