Tokyo As I stood along the aisle, waiting for my train to reach my destination, I looked into the distance and admired the view before me. Layers upon layers of buildings overlap the skyline. The scenery passes by and the train plunged deeper into the city centre. Light flashes by, coloured neon blue, green, red and yellow. Some were animated, others just foreign words. I heard the announcement and the train slowed to a halt. I cannot understand much, just the words "mamonaku" meaning "soon". But I take it to mean "next stop". The carriage doors slide apart, and crowds of people walked through it, either walking in or walking out. The city is alive, the people are numerous. I've never seen so many people congregate like this. Their pace is fast, their orderliness obsessive. The doors closed again. The train lumbered on and I turned my gaze back to the outside, back at the skyline.
