Summer Yard Finds My brother and I found a cricket in the yard. Named it Fillmore, he did his job. Fillmore lived in an abandoned piece on fire wood that I hid from my father so that Fillmore wouldn't burn. The more I played with Fillmore, the more I found out. Fillmore wasn't an ordinary grasshopper; he had lost an antenna. Fillmore wasn't the brilliant green you see in insect pictures but a very dull earthy-grey color. Fillmore had big black eyes that looked liked if you poked them, they'd leak liquid colored black. Glossy, they were; glossy as heck. On the first day of winter (when you had to read the temperature in fahrenheit because of how much you missed summer), I visited Fillmore's piece of firewood. I didn't find an energetic Fillmore though, I found a dead grasshopper.

Do you know how it felt to wake up in the morning feeling like I'm missing something? Do you know how many nights my eyes were rimmed with tears, so I had to apply extra mascara to stop the crying? Do you have a clue as to what you put me through? Judged on the things you call people behind their backs, I can't help but wonder what you call me. It keeps me up at night and anxious in the day.
