The Wish Chapter1: The Battle Field I awoke, early. My mouth was dry, but I didn't want to leave the warmth and safety of my bed for the battle field. I turned onto my side and was comforted by the sight of my little sister Lucy to my right. She was mumbling to herself, as usual. She held her blanket tightly in her hands and subconsciously brought it incloser to her body. I coughed and finally got the courage to pull back the covers and climb out of bed. I did it slowly and quietly to avoid waking Lucy. I slowly tiptoed to the door and turned the knob. The door creaked open and I cringed at the sound. I walked slowly into the kitchen where my parents were fighting. "When were you planning on telling them the truth?!" she yelled "Bertha... they're still young. Besides I want them to be happy. Do you know what the truth would do to little Lucy?" She gaped at him. They fought like this every night. I tried to avoid getting out of bed as much as possible, but that could sometimes prove difficult. I went to the cupboard and grabbed a teacup. I placed it under the tap. "What's she doing out of bed?!" My mother snapped. I dropped the cup, which shattered upon impact, into the sink. "Bertha! Don't yell at her! She has nothing to do with this." She sighed, frustrated, and got up from her chair. Her usually neat red red hair was flying out in all directions. I tensed up as I heard her footsteps approach. "Look at what you did you little..." She said grabbing my collar. "Bertha! It's just a cup. They sell them everyday." She released my collar, stormed out of the room and slammed their bedroom door behind her. I flinched and then stood frozen at the sink looking into the mirror above it. I saw myself. An eight year old girl, small for her age, with auburn hair done up in long french braided pigtails , hazel eyes, a million freckles, and rosy red cheeks from crying. I then looked in the direction of my father. He looked frazzled from the events of the evening. His usually spiky brown hair was flat on one side and his blue eyes lacked their usual sparkle and brightness. He took a seat in a chair at the table and put his head in his hands. I grabbed 2 cups and filled them with cold water. I set them on the table in front of him and scrambled up onto his lap. I wrapped my arms around his neck. "Are you okay daddy?" I whispered into his ear. "Yes Bella I'm gonna be alright." He said back then kissed my cheekWe sat in silence together drinking the water and finally he said "How about we get you back to bed?" He placed the cups in the sink, picked me up, and puts in my bed. He tucked the blankets in around me and kissed my forehead before leaving the room.
