Am I Free Am I free ? what does that even mean ? Not in chains but I am still enslaved . Langston Hughes said " #life is not a crystal stair "so why would freedom be so clear when so many cracks show how much African Americans lack being free to chose our own path but our hunger for greed puts people in misery. The ways Martin Luther king described looks like nothing but a blue print of a dream how we act now would just insult his memory. My father was wounded from the battles of war ; when really we don't even know why the fighting began or what it was for. hurtful words leave bruises and scars. They keep our hearts and minds trapped like Malcolm X behind bars. Back during segregation we were not free we were confined by Jim Crow how he could he stoop so low . We could not go in the same restaurant be in the same branch of military or the same restroom it caused a lot of unnecessary stress how big was that mountain of trials that our ancestors climbed to past the test non violent protest was the way and show an African American being above how others described our race . Lincoln said "Until every man is free, we are all slaves!" But yet in the dark African Americans are killed like Trayvon Martin And the George Zimmerman case. Martin said "Let freedom ring from the snowcapped Rockies of Colorado!Let freedom ring from the curvaceous slopes of California!But not only that; let freedom ring from Stone Mountain of Georgia!Let freedom ring from Lookout Mountain of Tennessee! Let freedom ring from every hill and molehill of Mississippi. From every mountainside, let freedom ring.And when this happens, when we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, "Free at last! free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!" But like Emmett Til , Malcolm x and Dr. Martin Luther king could see There was and is still a chance for everyone to be free .
