Moving On Her eyes were oceans And you've always loved swimming. You used to gaze into them Like they were another world; Planets to explore... And you've always loved adventuring. When the others saw you together, They never believed You had met two years ago. You didn't either. You would wait for her to come in, And while you weren't a "follower," You two were joined at the hip. You were partners in everything, For everything, She was everything. She was like a sister, Your best friend, And you saw one another In each other; Back then, you would have never Expected that would change. In time, you stopped sitting by her. She stopped meeting you outside After lunch. You sat at the bench by yourself, And she allowed her seat to be taken By someone else. You realize now That the reason her name Doesnt melt you anymore Is because you've heard it being said, And even said it yourself, So many times That it stopped leaving a taste In your mouth. They told you she was different, And they told you she was colder Than the innocent warmth of you. They told you there's a reason The sun strays from the moon. At first, you didn't listen. The voice of reason Became the voice of treason, Until finally, the only voice you heard Was hers; As smooth as her descent into your thoughts, As soft as her porcelain skin... And she got her hold on you. She painted herself as a leader, And sure, her words sometimes hurt you, But you figured she never meant it. And sure, she always put herself Before you, But you figured you could fix that. You can't fix that. She painted herself as strong, And sure, you saw little emotion from her, But you figured it would change. And sure, she always expected things You could never give her, But you figured that it would fade. It never faded. You realize now that you grew out of her, But what hurt the most Is that she grew out of you too. And you might know how to Braid her hair just right, Or how to respond to Her witty sarcasm, But you don't know how to be something She'll miss. The Archer His arrow sharply pointed, His stance performed With grace, The man who split the#moonin half With no more Than a single shot made. He stands with utter power, Not a single doubt In his face. 'Thinks not of the negative In order to help His confidence rein. Back he pulls his bowstring, Aligns his arrow with ease, Aims with perfect precision, It happens faster Than you can see. The arrow pierces the air And soars in a straight line, The archer smirks As he always does; Bullseye. 10/4/15

A Smoker's Future Smoking is suicide Without bullets And ropes; A silent killer Taking control. I don't understand How it's "cool" To quicken your death, Erase time spent With your loved ones, What could have been A memorable moment With your best friend. Where's the appeal In allowing a little stick Or a curved glass structure Rule over your #life? Wouldn't you prefer To rule it yourself As opposed to some other? What a laconic way to go, Prioritizing a puff and blow Over your youngest daughter's Future wedding. She'll explain to her children What their grandfather was like Before his lungs went limp And he died. She'll explain to her husband That because her father's gone, He has to be the one To attend Grandparent's Night. I can't help but think, What an idiotic way to go. On your death bed, If you could do it over again, Would you still smoke? 9/20/15

Space Girl and Ghost Boy Her eyes Are portals to space, And although she's here, She's a light year away. Ghost boy And his fluffy hair, All he really feels is despair. He lost the #life In his eyes Long ago, Now all that's left to see Is his shimmering soul. Space feels empty With no one there, Space Girl wishes for Ghost Boy to be her "air," But his big, blue eyes Have her tantalized So she can hardly speak. Ghost Boy can't be harmed For he's much too broken inside. He looks up to Space Girl In the sky, Maybe one day he'll learn to fly. Anything to see her face And embrace her until Their worries fade. For everyone knows A ghost's biggest wish Is to finally feel Eternal happiness. Space Girl and her shining hair A thousand twinkling stars Dancing there, Her skin as glowing and beautiful As the purple swirls The heavens hold. She wishes Ghost Boy could fly So she could show him the beauty Of the skies, And give him hope for better days And embrace him until Their worries fade. 8/29/15

Perhaps It's Love Do you see her behind your eyelids When the lights are out? When she speaks, Do you think, Just for a moment, The Earth stopped spinning To listen? You don't see her as human anymore. You try to compare her to a goddess, But Aphrodite bows before her. Her light, to you, becomes the day. If she were the sun, You would wish for an eternal eclipse, Just to see her face. When she speaks to you, Her eyes light up As if struck with a match And left uncovered as she's ablaze. When she looks at you, You feel like a statue, And you lose sensation 8/28/15
