sonnet
Floating without care of yesterday’s toll
In the endless river of blinding white,
I close the shutters and cover my soul
From the cries, the laughs, and war day and night.
The truth of what volatile feeling lies
Sitting in my subdued heart by what may
Have been failure of a flawed device
On some sole and sunken several days.
It is not thee that I seek to see dark,
It is the way night makes stars seem brighter;
But false heavenly luminescence stark
Clear to be seen with my morning eyesight.
The gates of temptation are in my sight,
I slip past and begin my long descent.
To let you in and let love burn bright;
Fall deeper, this was never my intent.
My sleepless love, I can see you are sad.
I see your mind’s storm and rain on your cheek.
Seeing the pain in your smile drives me mad.
It is the joy in your eyes that I seek.
I will wear the garland that thy has wreathed,
But no longer taste poison, unlike Eve.
