True Knowledge Because we walked home together on the streets and texted for hours into the night, she always thought that she knew me. If I said I was from Hainan, a lonely island sandwiched between the desolate mainland and the boundless sea, where it is common for children to be left alone to starve in the night, would she still think she knew me? To truely know me, you must understand the most despondent and the most ecstatic hours of my #life and know that the future is never definite. To know me, you must be abandoned by those you should be able to trust and forced to fall asleep to the sound of weeping children in the same situation as you, to learn to keep food close in order to prevent falls and the possibility of going hungrier than you already are. Splat! "You should have been more careful"(They warned that this would happen). To know me, leave everything you know behind for half a chance of a better in a new world. To know me, make the best of every situation and never give up, even when it seems like there is nothing to go on for. To know me, find a friend who touches your heart, comfort him, support him in all that he does, and never let the memories of him fade, even after you inevitably part. To know me, sing a joyous song to forget all the troubles of the world, draw a picture to turn fiction into reality, or read a book to lose yourself within a world of immagination and fantasy. To know me, listen to both sides of every story, for wisdom and truth come to those who wait with an open ear and an open mind. To truely know me, hold on to everything dear in your #life and aspire to be the best that you can while following the long, ever-changing roadway of #life. Backstory: This was a result of an assignment by my English teacher to copy the style of another #poem(we had to pick 1 of 4) while creating and revealing a distinct sense of self-identity. The #poem I chose for this was "Where I'm From" by Willie Perdomo. I chose his #poem because it had such a powerful sense of emotion in it compared to the other pieces, and I could empathize with him more than the other #poems.
