It was at the time of my best friend's birthday, and we decided we would like to go to his father's log cabin and sit around and drink a few beers. The drive there took about an hour, down a twisting dirt road in the middle of no where. We approached the cabin and it looked like it needed some repairs, just small things if you were to live there, but for a few nights, it would be fine. I grabbed my things from the car and walked up the steps to the door. The door had a knocking handle that looked hand made, it was delicately carved into the shape of an elk, fairly common in the surrounding forest. The door creaked as I opened it and took a few steps inside. I set my bags upon the couch and explored the cabin. On the first floor there was a living room, complete with a couch and tv, a kitchen, a bathroom, and the room with the washing machines. Upstairs had a few bedrooms and a full bathroom. A decent place to live, I wouldn't mind purchasing the cabin from Jeff's dad. "Which room is mine?" I called downstairs. "Either of the larger ones" Jeff hollered back. I threw my backpack onto the bed and went back downstairs. I snatched my bags and put them in my room. I grabbed the cooler and began stocking the fridge with our necessities: beer, soda, frozen pizzas, and hot pockets. I threw some ramen and the bags of chips into the cupboards. I began unpacking my bags and found an old package of cigars tucked away into a drawer. Too bad I don't smoke. I pulled out my phone, and discovered that there's no signal. I glanced at time, 8:37 PM. I ran downstairs and grabbed a big bowl and a bag of chips. I emptied out the bag and grabbed two beers and walked into the living room. I turned on the tv and sat back with Jeff. Time passed by quickly and it was soon 1 AM, and I was tired as hell. I woke up Jeff and we clambered up the stairs into our rooms and went to bed. I awoke to a sound of tapping. I lied still, listening to it. It was tapping the window, most likely a nearby tree. I began to notice the sound of rain hitting the roof. Just then lightning flashed and through the window was a grotesque hand. It was twisted in awkward directions and had long, thin fingers. I jumped in the bed and my heart began to race. I turned on the lamp and through the window was a branch in the same shape as the hand. A branch scared the hell out of me. I stood up and opened the window. I grabbed the branch and broke the part tapping the window. I closed the window and went to the bathroom. I dried my hands and then went back into my room. I lied down and felt a breeze. My window was still open. I would've sworn I had closed it, I must be losing my mind. I stood up and closed the window and fell back asleep. Around 4:15 I woke up again, to the sound of heavy breathing. My eyes flicked open and I was motionless, I didn't dare move. The breathing became louder and louder, as if it were coming closer. I heard a scream and something grabbed me, I began to strike at it and it began grunting and yelling, shouting "stop" and " it's just a joke" I stopped and turned on the light to see Jeff laughing his ass off and being a dick. "Fuck you, asshole!" I shouted. It was a while before I was able to settle down and fall back asleep. The next day was uneventful, just sitting on our asses watching tv and playing some video games. We eventually ran out of beers and Jeff went to get some more. The door creaked open. "Jeff, you're back early" I said. No answer. "Jeff?" . Still no answer. "Jeff you're not gonna scare me again." I walked into the kitchen and Jeff wasn't there, and more importantly, the beer wasn't there. "Jeff, where the fuck are you?" Still silence. I walked over to the front door which was wide open. I closed the door and my heart began to beat inside my throat. I began searching around the cabin for Jeff, who was obviously playing a prank on me. Just then the door opened again. "I'm back Pete" Jeff called. "Jeff?" "No, it's the fucking milkman. Yes it's me, dumbass." "Someone's in the house then." " what the hell do you mean?" "Someone opened the door." " it was probably the wind, the door doesn't latch properly, I doubt anyone knows where the hell where this cabin is." I g
