The Beauty of Writing Letters
Back in the days, writing a letter would mean that you get a piece of paper, get yourself a pen and start writing. Today? Well, you log in to Facebook via your cellphone and write on somebodys wall. The process of writing a letter when cellphones or email didn't exist would take some time. Not just "time", but precious time. Time worth spending. If the same thing were to be done today, people would either call you strange or not take it seriously enough. "Just another bill", they think when they find the letter in the mailbox.
And postcards. Who sends them anymore? The Internet has replaced the beauty of writing by hand, buying stamps and finding mailboxes – an effort that's worth it in the end. The Internet is a modern way of sending letters and postcards, you simply snap a picture of the beach you're on and post it to your Facebook-wall. No words needed. You gain likes, comments and maybe some shares, if you're lucky. Hell, you don't even need to write where you are – the Internet takes care of that.
This makes me sad. The keyboard I'm typing on right now is getting worn out because of the constant use. I look at my notepad and it's gathering dust. Why? Because it takes time – get a piece of paper, find a pen, and locate a mailbox. The modern definition of pen is now called "keyboard", the paper "screen" and mailbox... "e-mailbox". At least something is still as it used to be. For now.
