Royal Imposter As I ran past the large dark halls and shadowy rooms that I had come to know so well these past months. I began wishing I hadn't chosen this path of lies. All I knew was that I had to get out. Fast. It was the dead of night and the castle looked quite different than it did in the daytime. The only place I knew the guards weren't lurking about was the prince's quarters. I heard my heels click against the marble stairs as I ascended up to Prince Terence's room. I creaked open the large mahogany door and peeked inside. I saw no one. I slipped through the door and into the warm room lit by a large fire place. There was a giant bed, a desk and Terrence also had a mirror and a few pictures on his wall next to the open balcony doors. Everything in the castle was so grand, I had always wondered why prince Terrence styled his room like this.In the center of the room was a glass table with a beautiful ,slightly mangled, rose on it. My heart ached as I remembered. I was the girl who didn't except his rose. But I was glad I didn't for I was the last person on earth who deserved his love. I tiptoed over to the pictures on his wall. All of them were of princess Katie. Or should I say myself and Katie. If you looked very closely you could see the difference in our faces. I wore a more serious expression and the beautiful princess glowed with joy in every one of her pictures with Terrence. As I touched one of the pictures of me and the prince I heard an echoing sound of footsteps stomping up the stairs. I froze in terror sure I was caught. As the door creaked open I ran to the balcony as quickly as I could. My heart was beating so loud I knew whoever was in that room was sure to find me. I stole a glance around the wall and saw Prince Terrance's reflection in the mirror. His face was flushed and he was running his hands through his gorgeous brown hair. But he still managed to look charming. As I gazed into the mirror I saw Terrance's eyes meet mine. His head whipped around to face the balcony doors. He had seen me. Panicked I flattened myself to the wall. Terrence strode over to the balcony and looked at me with a great confusion in his eyes. I must've looked a fright. First of all I was sure they had told him that I wasn't Katie and secondly my blonde hair was unkept and I had my night gown on. Suddenly Terrence grabbed my head and stared into my eyes. Then he kissed me. It was the most wonderful thing. But it lasted only a moment. He then whispered "Please stay my beautiful princess." I was then pulled back to reality. I wasn't a princess I was just Skylar a peasant and a liar. The girl he really loved , Katie, was gone. I looked into his big blue pleading eyes and I knew that to stay was what my heart really wanted. But instead I used my head. I ran over to the edge of the balcony overlooking Lothiella sea. I climbed up onto the railing and took one last look at my prince. He had alarm written all over his face. But he wasn't "my prince" he was Katie's prince. So I jumped.
