Your Birth
Something awoke me and stirred me inside
Not a pinch or a pain, but a twinkling inside
I rose, woke your Dad and said it was time
And he rushed to the phone while I said I was fine
We drove thru the night since twilight it was
And got to the hospital without any fuss
They wheeled me upstairs to the maternity ward
They said "Walk the halls honey, you're about to give birth!"
I paced and I walked and soon there was pain
It ripped up my spine and back down again
I went to my bed and they strapped monitors on
I could hear your heart beating, alive and so strong
The pains, they grew longer and sharper with force
And then it was time to finally push
It took all of my strength and then your were born
The doctor was late (you were in such a rush!)
And so was your Dad, but they saved best for last
"Cut the cord" they said, they shouldn't have asked
They wrapped you in cotton and placed you with me
So tiny you were, So precious to me
A new little girl and sister to two
A daughter, grand daughter and cousin were you
It took just a moment to change the history of time
Forever is graced with your present mind.
