Raindrop And The Silver Mirror Once upon a time,there lived a young man,his wife,and his cat. They lived in an old hut by a deep lake. The young man and his wife longed for a daughter because they had no children. One day, a daughter was born to them. She was born on a rainy day,so she was named Raindrop. The mother was so excited, she ran into the storm to buy supplies, but on the way, she slipped on a puddle and fell into the lake. This was heard on the news, and her father sobbed. Raindrop did not know what had happened, but she did understand that her mom would not be back. Ten years later, Raindrop's father decided to marry a young woman who lived on the other end of the street. The first week the stepmother was okay with Raindrop, but soon got jealous because compared to Raindrops her own daughter, Molly, looked very plain. The stepmother soon found out that Raindrop hated fire, so she gave her at least one chore with fire each day. Raindrop also had to do the laundry, clean the cat's mess, and do other house chores. Nearby, there lived a king and his son. The king was getting old, so he planned a ball for his son, so he can be king. One day, while Raindrop was fetching fish for dinner, she saw an advertisement for the ball, and begged her stepmother to let her go. The stepmother said yes, but only if she could light a fire in the lake without it going out. Raindrop cried because she knew she couldn't do it, but at that moment a fairy appeared and said she would do it for her. When her stepmother saw this, she became furious. The stepmother locked Raindrop in her room, but the same fairy from before unlocked the door for her. Then the fairy instructed her to bring a squash, a lizard, and four mice. Raindrop did as she was told, and the fairy turned the squash into a carriage, the lizard into a rider, and the four mice into horses. Then Raindrop was handed a mirror that only showed her reflection. The fairy sent Raindrop off, but she forgot the most important instruction, to come back before dawn. As soon as the prince saw Raindrop, he fell in love and announced that he would marry her. They danced, but when dawn struck, everything went back to normal, all but the mirror. Raindrop felt humiliated and ran away. The prince still loved her, so he sent a servant to look for her. It was then that he saw the mirror that Raindrop had and used it to find her. When the prince found how Raindrop was treated, he made the stepmother poor. The father got a home in the castle and they all lived happily ever after.( except the stepmother and Molly)
