There's Been a Mistake Chapter 2 "Aunt Becky!" I yelled and ran towards my aunt. It's been at least four years since I've last seen her. I enveloped her in a hug and heard my mom laughing from behind us. She's older than my mom so she had her own house when my grandma and mom moved. I've missed her like crazy. My mom and I are close but I would tell aunt Becky everything. Even though she's older than me, I treated her like she was my best friend. "You have grown so much! You're probably about five foot seven now. Last time I saw you, you were barely reaching five foot!" Aunt Becky said and laughed. "Well I think you've gotten shorter," I joked and dodged the punch that was aimed at my arm. We always joked around when we were together. Her and my mom acted the exact same but I joke with aunt Becky much more. She was the sister that I've always wanted. "I for one, am ready to get to sleep. Can we go home now?" My mom asked and already started walking away. I will admit, I was pretty exhausted too. I hate flying and sleeping on an airplane is even worse. "Ready to see your new home?" Aunt Becky asked and led the way to the car. I was really surprised by the nice houses that we were passing by. I expected this place to be old. I didn't foresee all the nice houses and perfectly manicured lawns. I thought of rundown houses and dead grass. It is definitely more beautiful here than I would have ever thought. The palm trees that lined the roads reminded me of Miami. It would actually be a pretty amazing place to live in. Although I do still miss New York. Eventually we pulled into a driveway and my jaw dropped. "This is your house?!" I asked, astonished. It was a two story house that looked like it belonged in California. "Yes ma'am. Do you like it?" Aunt Becky asked as she pulled the keys out of the ignition. "Like it? I love it! I feel like I'm in Beverly Hills." "Oh please honey, it is so much nicer here than in Beverly Hills. It might not be as big, and celebrities might not come here, but it's much prettier and it doesn't have a big crime rate. This is just a peaceful town where people come to relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery." We walked in her house and my mom immediately went in search of a room. I knew she already had her own room here since her sister bought this house before she moved away. I wandered upstairs and and went to the left. I past by a few room until I stopped in front of a door. For some reason I just knew that this was going to be my room. I opened the door to reveal green walls with a bed that had a lavender colored bedspread. There were a few more lavender colored things around the room that tied the colors together. Yes, this is definitely going to become my bedroom. "Want to explore the town with me?" Aunt Becky asked a few hours later. I took a short nap and now I had tons of energy. "Sure, I want to know what there's to do on weekends," I said and followed her our of the house. "There are a few kids that always throw parties. Other than that, there isn't much to do. It's a nice town, but it's quiet. You have to get with the 'in' crowd to have fun. I suggest you don't though. Those kids are nothing but trouble." "I'll make sure I won't hang out with them, then," I said as we pulled into a parking lot. It was in the center of town. We were in one big shopping center with a bunch of food places. It was actually really nice. We started walking down the sidewalk and talking about the town. At one point we started laughing and after a few seconds she abruptly stopped and threw her arm around my shoulders. My eyebrows scrunched and I was about to ask why she did that when she stopped, forcing me to stop in the process. There was a man standing in front of us that had dark brown hair, green eyes, and he was very well built. I would say he is in his early thirties. He was fairly attractive, except for the scowl that was firmly planted on his face that was aimed at aunt Becky. "Lance," she said curtly. She also had a frown covering her face. "Becky," he said and gave a slightly nod. His eyes wandered over to me and aunt Becky pulled me tighter against her. I avoided his eyes for some reason. They were bright green prying eyes. "I'm Lance," he said and held his hand out. "Kayleigh," I squeaked and shook his hand. I don't know why, but he made me very nervous. There was something about him that unnerved me. "Is she..." he trailed off and looked at aunt Becky. "She's my niece," she said and Lance's eyes shot to me. His eyes sparkled for a second before they became clouded and his scowl returned. He turned back to aunt Becky and disgust was clearly showing in his eyes. "Tell her that I want nothing to do with her or her daughter," he said, venom marring his deep voice. I flinched away when he shoveled past us. "Who was that?" I asked after a few minutes. The gleeful, carefree atmosphere was gone and in it's place was a very gloomy feeling. "Don't worry about him, he's a sorry excuse for a man," she said and hugged me to her. I wasn't going to bring him up again, but the nagging feeling didn't go away. I wanted to know why he was so angry at us. I also wanted to know who he was talking about earlier. He said something about someone and her daughter. He obviously hated them very much. He seemed like the man that didn't like people very much. Those people who he was talking about were lucky that he didn't want to be around him. He was actually saving them from being near him. I wish I was that lucky.
