Hidden Figure I sat on the limb of a tree listening to the sound of the rain as it fell around me. I was pretty high up so no one ever noticed me and made me go home during rain storms. I preferred to be out here than at home. My dad was always stressed with bills or his job and various other things. My mom died in a robbery a few years back so my dad was even more stressed out because he had to take care of me on his own. It also didn't help that I was 15 and a tomboy so I usually wanted expensive stuff. A sudden erupt of commotion got my attention. There was a crowd gathered in the park. It looked like there was some sort of party. Everyone started to file into a line and lay on the wet ground. There was a man with a mask on who had a gun pointed at them. He was yelling at them to empty their pockets and give it to him. I started getting angry. Ever since my mom was killed I've hated robbers and criminals. It's not like people don't hate them already but I hated them even more. I slid my hood on so it would hide my face. Then, without thinking I jumped down from the tree and calmly walked over to the robber. I was almost to him when he noticed all of his captives were staring in my direction. He turned and pointed the gun at me. "Get on the ground kid." He growled at me. I stayed silent and remained standing there with my hands in my pockets. "Don't try to be a hero, Get on the ground." He said. I stayed there. The captives started whispering to each other. The man turned and pointed the gun at them. "Quiet!" He yelled. I started walking towards him again. I was about an arms length away from him when he turned on me again. "Don't do something you'll regret kid." I continued to stand there unmoving. The gun was almost touching my forehead. "Put your hands up kid." He said. "Or a bullets going through your head." I started you raise my hands up but halfway up I reached down and pushed the mans gun away. I also leaned my body away from the gun and took a small step back. This was all done in a split second. The man instinctively fired the gun and the bullet went into the dirt. I rotated so my back was to the mans chest and I used my elbow to push the mans arm down while my hand pulled the gun up and out of his hand. I then elbowed his stomach with my free arm and put my foot behind his causing him to trip and fall backwards. I quickly spun around and backed away from him. I then pointed the gun at him. He slowly rose to his feet with his hands up. "Don't do anything rash kid. Look ill give these wonderful people their stuff back and leave." I shook my head. I used one arm to pull out my cellphone. I dialed 911 and and tossed the phone to him. He looked at the screen. "Your telling me to turn myself in?" He asked. I nodded. "I could just frame ya, your the one with the gun." I pointed out a camera attached to my shoulder. "Your a smart one, huh." I put a bullet into the chamber of the pistol and put my finger on the trigger. "Alright, Alright I'm calling." He said then clicked send on the phone. He put it on speaker phone and set it on the ground. '911 what's your emergency?' The man started to say something then lunged at me. He hit my shoulder and I rotated with him and hit his head with the but of the gun. He fell over from the momentum of me turning with him. He clutched his head and stayed on the ground. I then backed up to the phone and tossed it to one of the captives. The captive that grabbed it was a lady who was protectively holding her two kids. They both were boys and had tear marks on their cheeks. She started talking into the phone and I turned my attention back to the man who was starting to stand up. I unloaded the gun and threw the ammo and clip a few feet behind me. I then threw the gun a few feet in the opposite direction. I walked up to the man and twisted his arm behind his back and sent him back to the ground. I then hit his head and he blacked out. As I stood up the police started to pull up. Thankfully the police station wasn't far from here. The crowd erupted into a cheer as I walked away. The police started to run after me but I threw my camera at them and the crowd convinced them I wasn't the crook. I slipped into the woods and made sure no one was following me before heading home.
