The daily main event consisted of a few of the "9" huddling together on the warm sand of the desert evening, lit by fire light, sun setting and having eaten Compo or MRE. Each detachment of three men had a warrior pet. Call sign A10 had "Bob" a massive black Beatle measuring 3 inches or so from pincers to tail. Bob was covered in small white dots and looked like a cross between a giant stag Beatle and a lady bird. Bob was one fearless warrior and pretty much indestructible. So Call sign A20 and A30 scoured the desert daily for animal and insect to challenge Bob for supremacy. On which these gladiatorial battle would have our desert currency wagered. Great fun for the "9" in the evening before radio shift change or bed. Not so for the dozens of challengers that were cleared out of the arena like a scene from "the #life of Brian" (or if your not a soldier) "Ben Hur"
