The Last Tear She hugged her knees as she sat slumped under the christmas tree, Ed Sheeran's "Give Me love" playing softly in the background. She hoped for someone to show up. It was the first year alone and she wasn't ready for it yet. There was but one gift near her feet; a necklace that she had bought herself a week ago, wrapped as neatly as possible. She stared at it as a tear fell from her red, puffy eyes. She wiped it away furiously... She had no reason to be mad, but for some reason she felt like breaking the only ornament on her tree. The ornament he had bought her last year. She drifted off into a thought, a memory, as she stared at the ornament. She couldn't get away from her own mind, all she could think about was his hands lightly holding her chin as their lips intertwined. And when they pulled away his thumb brushed against her slightly chapped lips as the snow continued to fall around them. As she came back to reality, her brown eyes grazed over the gift. She started to tear at the green paper, as a glimmer of silver caught in the corner of her eye. She glanced up and saw a small, silver box, hidden at the base of the tree. A little confused, she reached for the box and started unwrapping it carefully, wiping another tear away. In the box was a note that read "I know I don't have much time left. I won't be here for our 3rd christmas together, but I want you to know how much I love you, and that you're never really alone. Please take this last gift from me, I only wish I could've left you with more." She looked around the note and took out the small ring, slipping it on her finger after observing it. She let the last tear fall from her eyes, because he left her with all she ever needed. His love.
